Se7en Opening Scene Analysis

Police sirens in background as well as rain this creates the setting and scene. During the first few minutes of the clip from Se7en you are already given a clear view of what the film is going to be about. When they walk outside the viewer is able to hear the sound of the police car to represent chaos. Also they can understand the violent rainfall hitting the ground. This immediately suggests the film is quite dark and miserable.

At the start it begins with a one shot of Morgan Freeman to show he is the main character. A close up of the items he places in his pocket shows that they may be significant later on in the film. An over the shoulder shot of Brad Pitt shows what he is looking at is important and key. Low angle of both the main characters shows that they have authority because you are looking up at them.

The scene opens of a man dressed very formally and smart. This introduces him as a focussed authoritative figure who is mostly likely the main character. Then later in the scene he meets another man who is also dressed smart this shows that he is also important. The scene takes in a casual location which contrast with their formal clothes.
