The Da Vinci Code Opening Analysis
The Opening Scene
- Music creates tension,
- Murder build up made by sound and fast paced cuts,
- Special effects (opening credits),
- Jump cuts used between the two scenes used to create tension,
- Sound and editing used in the church to create a fast-pased, action-based scene,
- The man who is being chased was dressed formally, but the man chasing him was dressed in a dark robe,
- Heightened non-diagetic sound (concentration on heartbeat, gets viewer involved),
- Match cuts between man running and paintings used to create tension through the face-paced running man and the mysterious paintings,
- Music is very sharp and upbeat,
- The setting is in a museum,
- The lighting is very dark and gloomy to represent and set the scene for a mysterious film,
- It is different to a horror because Thriller films are more well known for opening with a murder/death scene then the rest of the film to be focused on it, whereas a horror film doesn't usually begin with a chaotic death scene.
